For Mental Health Professionals
Mental Health Support and Practitioner Training
SOCCHG does not directly provide mental health services. Rather, we partner with Religious Trauma & Cults (RTC). RTC is an Australian-based organisation, co-directed by Sam Sellers and Elise Heerde, working to close the gap in support and training for those impacted by cults and high-control groups - whether religious or not. We support survivors in making sense of their experiences while building practitioners' capacity to respond with knowledge, skill, and care.
Cult-informed counsellors and psychologists, as well as training for professionals can be accessed through their website.
For Frontline Workers
In 2027, we will be launching our professional training for recognising and responding to group-based coercion. This is in line with the recommendations Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into cults and organised fringe groups, and based on the Group-Based Coercion matrix and risk-pattern harm model put forward in our white paper, Beyond Belief.
Ready yourself and your organisation to recognise and respond to group-based coercive control - an issue that is separate and distinct from intimate partner coercive control, and is so often difficult to spot.
